I’d have to think that there is some way, otherwise the internet is pretty much owned by domain name registrars, as they would be the ones that would govern all websites.

What are the differences between different Domain name registrars?

Why do i have to pay 10 dollars per year at yahoo and 3 dollars at some other company, for a domain name? It’s just the domain name right? i’m not talking about email or hosting services. When you register a domain name www.something.com You get the same thing at every company, right? so what does it matter if i get it at yahoo or at whatever place else?
Also, is it maybe so that you can’t get email and hosting at a registrar if you didn’t get the domain name from them?

David González asked:

I need some .com and international domains for my small company, and I’m amazed at the price differences among different registrars, for a service which is essentially the same. However, after browsing the Internet, I’ve read truly horror stories about europeregistry.com (fake whois entries, hidden expenses, lack of support, etc.), but godaddy.com seems to have a good reputation. On the other side, Europe Registry convers almost every TLD I need, and godaddy does not. Any alternatives?

I am looking to register a .org domain name, but do not which to have my address publicly available. I do not wish to register with GoDaddy due to issues with them in the past, and the $35+$10 Register.com asks for is a rip-off in my opinion.

I would prefer to register through a ICANN accredited registrar rather than through a reseller.
