Why do i have to pay 10 dollars per year at yahoo and 3 dollars at some other company, for a domain name? It’s just the domain name right? i’m not talking about email or hosting services. When you register a domain name www.something.com You get the same thing at every company, right? so what does it matter if i get it at yahoo or at whatever place else?
Also, is it maybe so that you can’t get email and hosting at a registrar if you didn’t get the domain name from them?

I have a domain name that I bought a year of registration. I canceled my credit card and had no plans to renew the domain after the year was up. The registrar 1and1.com, did not expire the domain, sent the bill to collections, and now I’m getting harrassed by NCO financial. Doing a search for “1and1 nco” I find they do this a lot.

I always thought that subscriptions such as magazines, clubs, etc.. that I pay for in advance cannot go to collections.

how can I fight the $18.95 collection agency charge?

When i use WHOIS i get the registrar, but how do i get to know who actually registered the domain (who is the “real” owner), my friend registered a while ago the domain i want to be sure it was not taken by anyone else (know that he is still the owner) .

If I transferred the site to the servers of an adult hosting company, would I still be bound by the content restrictions of Bravenet for as long as I’m paying them for it?
