How is HostMonster with wordpress?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010
Sozain asked:

Is it recommended to register a domain and buy hosting from two different companies??

Does a domain name registration from a good company like godaddy make any difference, or all are same??

I have also heard that one should register domain for at least 5 years for its reliability…is it true? What would happen if one register a domain for 1 year while next year the registrar company raises its price?

Where do registrars get the domains that they sell, and if it comes from someone else, where do they get it?

Is it possible to host a website without registering a domain name?

I’d have to think that there is some way, otherwise the internet is pretty much owned by domain name registrars, as they would be the ones that would govern all websites.

Jack asked:

I registered a domain name a few months ago with a little known company. The problem is the company’s service is a piece of crap – half the time their name servers are down. So I want to transfer that domain name to godaddy. So how do I go about it? Do I need to notify the old registrar and get their permission or can I just pay godaddy for the transfer and have it take place?

Would my host be obligated to provide a 3rd party with my personal information?

Cycle of Misery asked:

Under what circumstances would my host and/or registrar be obligated to provide a 3rd party with my personal information?

This is completely hypothetical. However:

If I threatened harm to myself/others, and someone from my university counseling service somehow found out about it, and they knew it was someone from my school… could they contact my host/registrar and find my info?

I want to be 100% certain. I realize this sounds sketchy and paranoid.

Thank you.

Dwayne Kyle asked:

I want to park my domain. It still have 11 months left in its registration. How can I park it in Sedo.com using my registrar’s control panel? I have some difficulty in using it. (Register nameservers, modify nameservers, or delete nameservers) In addition it has no hosting right now (expired). Does anyone has a step-by-step way to redirect my domain?

I am transferring some domains out of 1&1, and I would like to find a reputable domain registrar that does not charge a fee when domains are transferred to them.

Thanks!
I’m not talking about hosting my domain, I’m talking about a “transfer of registrar”; changing who actually controls the record.

I’m actually not talking about anything related to the hosting or DNS of my domains.

A transfer of registrar is when you actually transfer your domain registration to another company, so you have nothing to do anymore with the original company you registered it with. For example, if I transferred my domains from 1&1 to GoDaddy, GoDaddy would take over the management of the contact information, locking, nameservers, and renewals of the domains.

I’ve done tons of these transfers before; my question is what is a registrar that won’t charge a fee to accept a domain transfer to them.

If I buy a domain name from one registrar, am I still bound by their content ToS if they aren’t hosting it?

trasse2 asked:

I recently bought a domain name from Bravenet. Looking to the future, I’m thinking of posting a forum/imageboard with potentially adult content, and this is prohibited by their ToS. If I transferred the site to the servers of an adult hosting company, would I still be bound by the content restrictions of Bravenet for as long as I’m paying them for it? Also, does anyone know of a reliable adult hosting site?

It cost a yearly fee to have a www domain name through a registrar. If can’t afford should I try a web page on Geo Cities and use their link for people to access my page?
