Sabrina asked:

Private vs Public Schools Of the first-year students in a certain college, it is known that 40% attended private secondary schools and 60% attended public schools. The registrar reports that 30% of all students who attended private schools maintain an A average in their first year at college and that 29% of all first-year students had an A average. At the end of the year, one student is chosen at random from the class. If the student has an A average, what is the conditional probability that the student attended a private school?.]

Ed asked:

The registrar at a community college wanted to determine if there was a difference in the average test scores students made in two different classes. The data she accumulated are:

Class A: mean = 126; sample sd = 10.7; class size = 16
Class B: mean = 118; sample sd = 5.4; class size = 10.

Then the difference of the means is significant at the α = 0.02 level.

True

False

Nick P asked:

The registrar of a large university knows that 29% of the students come to college with credit for an advance placement (AP) course. The registrar is going to conduct interviews with 100 students regarding their experiences at the university. Depending on which students are chosen, the proportion of students in the sample that have AP credit may vary.

In a sample of 100 students, what is the probability that over 30% of the sample has AP credit?

Class A: mean = 126; sample sd = 10.7; class size = 16
Class B: mean = 118; sample sd = 5.4; class size = 10.

For a given a-value, the registrar should use a “testing the difference between 2 means with unequal variances” technique. Because of the size of the sample she should use a t test with d.f.=9.

Is it… True or False

i need to state the NULL and ALTERNATIVE hypothesis for this investigation:

suppose the mean GPA of all students graduating from a particular college in 1975 was 2.80. the registrar plans to look at records of students graduation in 2005 if mean GPA has changed.

so what is the null and alternative hypothesis?
