I could not go to this past semester to Gaston College in Lincolnton, NC. I am now being charged $85.00 for waiting to drop my classes until the day “supposively the classes started”. I have spoken to the “registrar of whatever it’s called” and to the “dean”, and they say “I **** it for you but you should have not waited until the first day to drop”, well, my class would have not started until that Tuesday anyway, and I said, “well, I cannot afford to pay that amount,” is there anything you can do?” Well and they said NO. Uhhhhh!

Can somebody please figure out the cost or tuition for residents and nonresidents of unergraduates?

I took out two loans to go to school through ed financial there and didn’t recieve any federal aid or grants. The college GOT their money and now I owe ed financial only. I have paid around 16,000 dollars on the loan so far and even paid before the loan was active and I didn’t have to pay. I lost my job and had to defer the loan for 2 years. The loan is currently on deferal and in good standing having neverr missed a payment. The college registrar is telling me, “uhm sir you have a HUUUGEE balance and we can’t release any documents until that is ALLLL paid” !!!!!!! does she want me to pay the loan off outright right now!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! she’s insane, that’s not how it works! … is it? what should I do? should I get a lawyer? or contact the president. The registrar didn’t even know what I meant when I said the loan was defered. she thought it was some derogatory word…. what an idiot. she repeated it to me.. “it’s … defered.. sir?????”
thanks guys and gals those are all great suggestions. I feel more confident now. I knew the registrar was kooky.
So i contacted them back. they are really messing w/ me now. I found an old unofficial copy of the transcript and my new school is willing to accept it so i don’t even need the kooky registrar anymore. good day!!
here’s the link to the department of educations website that says a school must provide/furnish a copy of your transcript bills or no bills by law. www.ed.gov/policy/gen/reg/ferpa/index.html check out schwablearning.com (spelling??) for a message of t’d off parents having the same problem. you may want to hire an advocate after you read this stuff… even if you’re not having problemss with your transcripts..=P

Question about Student Financial Aid Process?

I have applied for Student Financial Aid and although, I have been initially rejected… I have appealed to the Finanical Aid Officer and have been told my case is a “slam dunk.” Given this, I am assuming.. (praying actually) that I will be getting money for college. I need to be a full time student if this does go through, thus leaving me with little time to work… which is fine, school is more important for me at this point. My cost of attendence is $9,672. which should cover me as a full time student for the whole spring/fall 07 semesters.

My question is: Is that how much money I will be actually getting? Is it in one lump sum? How fast does it go through? I am only asking because the Registrar of the college called me tonight and told me to register, to make sure I get my classes before it’s filled but how can I with no funds. :-(
Edit: My estimated cost of attendence is $9,762. <-- the college came up with that quote not me!
Also, if you owe money like to credit card companies... can this affect your financial aid?
